Honorary Grand Marshal of the 2008 Parade is Gwinnett County Commissioner-elect, Shirley Fanning-Lasseter. Fanning-Lasseter served as mayor of Duluth for the past 14 years. In August, Fanning-Lasseter won the Republican primary run-off for Gwinnett County Commissioner and is unopposed in the November general election; she officially takes office in January 2009.
